Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at kineticindoor@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The term 'indoor" refers to the activity that takes place indoors, contrary to marching band that performs outside on a football field. The difference between an indoor group and a marching band group is that indoor groups are generally percussive consisting of the battery [snares, basses, quads, and cymbals], and front ensemble [xylophone, glockenspiel, marimba, drum set, bells, etc.].

In the marching arts, a group has a new show that ranges from a theme the show is about, or a narrative story. The goal is to either demonstrate the theme or tell the story as clear as possible for the judges/audience to understand utilizing percussion instruments, props, music, to convey the purpose.

Kinetic Indoor is a non-profit organization that provides a platform of musical education to its members in both music and marching. During the winter season, this organization competes in local, state, and national percussion circuits in exhibition performances and competition. We take great pride in our music and showmanship during competitions to represent the local community that we also wish to provide entertainment in community events during the off season.

Every year, Kinetic Indoor will host auditions around the beginning of the fall season. In order to prepare yourself as much as you can, those that are interested in attending clinics [pre-audition rehearsals] and auditioning shall purchase the exercise packet. This packet will have the everything you will need to learn to prep you for your audition, and season. It is our goal to ensure you have a successful audition and we will work with you so you feel well prepared for the audition process. We encourage all prospective members to attend as many clinics as they can.

Clinics will be held to provide prospective members with additional learning on their desired percussion instrument in addition to  marching. Each staff member specializes in each section of the group and will work with you on a smaller scale to teach you the fundamentals. To build the foundation of your journey, You can expect to be taught technique, approach, and musical interpretation. You can also expect to be taught fundamental marching technique to achieve basic bodily movement and understanding. Ultimately, we want clinics to be a positive experience and hope you walk away filled with more knowledge!

Auditions will consist of two-parts - Music, and marching. During the music portion, you will be evaluated on how will you are able to perform the written exercises given in your audition packet as well as some additional exercises to gauge your flexibility. This evaluation process will vary depending on if you are auditioning for the battery or front ensemble. You will be expected, however, to perform as a group, your section [for battery], and individual.

For the marching portion, in addition to basic marching movements, you will be expected to learn a short choreography and evaluated on how well you grasp and perform this routine. We highly suggest wearing proper footwear for this!
